Showtime entertainment president, David Nevins, teased what to expect in Homeland season 4 on Thursday at the channel’s TCA winter event.

After Brody died at the end of Homeland season 3, viewers knew that the show would be in need of a reboot if it were to continue. Nevins admits that the show will take on a different direction with Brody out of the picture.

“This is a show that is fundamentally about a field operative and we really haven’t seen [Carrie] — with the exception of the very beginning of season one — out in the field operating,” he said when looking ahead to Homeland season 4. “So the likely plan for next year is you will see her on the ground in a foreign capital doing her job.”

The end of season 3 saw Carrie receive an overseas assignment from Lockhart, her new CIA director. She was also pregnant with Brody’s child.

Nevins also confirmed that Saul – played by Mandy Patinkin – will be back in the picture despite his firing from the CIA in season 3. “He’ll be central. He’ll be important,” he said. Speaking of the CIA, Nevins says that Homeland’s writing team is meeting with real members of the Central Intelligence Agency this month so they can write loyal story lines for the episodes ahead.

Homeland season 4 is expected to premiere in late summer 2014.

The first sign of Brody’s demise came before the season ended when we learned that his family members would not be back as regulars for season 4.
