Tonight’s Homeland season 4 finale will cap off a season of television that has proved the show has a very exciting life beyond Brody.

It feels like we’ve come a long way from the early days of Homeland season 4, which kicked off with an attack on a wedding that killed everyone but the person they really wanted dead: Haqqani. Aayan, a survivor of the attack and the nephew of Haqqani, got close to Carrie after she needed his help but fell victim to the war between the United States and the Taliban.

The penultimate episode of Homeland season 4, which aired last Sunday, saw Quinn and then Carrie try to take down Haqqani, but there was one last twist in store: Dar Adal is working with Haqqani. Or is he? By the sounds of his words in the trailer for tonight’s season finale, it sure seems like he’s no longer on Carrie’s side:

We have a lot of questions going into episode 12 titled “Long Time Coming” (that’s a potentially ominous phrase), besides the big one about Dar Adal.

Will Saul return to the CIA as director? We know that the government is looking to push Lockhart out in light of the events that happened at their embassy in Pakistan, and a clip from the episode seems to show Saul itching to get back in the game:

Will Quinn survive? After a tense relationship with Dar Adal earlier in the season when the black ops director questioned Quinn’s well-being, the revelation that Dar Adal is working with Haqqani may be Quinn’s big motivator in finally doing some damage to his boss.

Will Carrie finally stay at home? Season 4 primarily took place in Pakistan – thanks in part to Carrie’s desire to get away from her and Brody’s baby – so we wonder if Homeland’s lead will want to stay in the United States for season 5. We hope that hints of what’s to come in the new season will be planted in the finale, despite the fact that the show’s team hasn’t started writing season 5 yet.

What will come of Martha’s husband, Dennis? While he didn’t appear in episode 11, we did see the traitor heading back to the United States in episode 10 after failing to kill himself. Perhaps he thinks he can clear his name, or maybe he’d rather face a trial.

Homeland season 4, episode 12 airs Sunday, December 21 at 9 p.m. eastern/pacific on AMC.
