Last night’s episode of Homeland season 4 introduced an exciting twist and may’ve inspired Saul to jump back into the CIA game.

When Dar Adal appeared with Haqqani at the end of Homeland season 4, episode 11, viewers couldn’t believe what they were seeing. Is Dar Adal truly working with Haqqani? And if so, why would he place himself in public view like that?

While we won’t have any answers until this Sunday, one thing is certain: This revelation appears to have inspired Saul.

In a clip from the Homeland season 4 finale, Saul talks with his wife Mira about getting back in the game. While the context of their conversation is a little unclear, one can assume that Saul has learned about Dar Adal’s whereabouts. Take a look:

Lockhart mentioned in episode 11 that the government was currently looking to replace him in light of what happened at the embassy, so with his position opening up, perhaps now is the perfect time for Saul to return to the CIA as director.

It’s only a matter of time until Saul begins working with Carrie closely again. Even though he was completely fed up with his line of work after being captured by Haqqani, the truth of the matter is that, like Quinn, Saul is addicted to protecting his country.

A trailer for the Homeland season 4 finale offers a bunch of clips over a monologue from Dar Adal (though it sounds like these sentences were re-organized for the trailer).

“Don’t look so shocked,” he says to someone — presumably Carrie. “We have to see events for what they are. It’s not what I’ve done, it’s what I got in return. Not every choice we make is bliss with moral clarity. One adapts to the terrain. We are the no man of no man’s land.”

“What are you playing at Carrie?”

“I call it give me what I fucking want.”

These comments are interesting because the “it’s not what I’ve done, it’s what I got in return” line could suggest that Dar Adal is working with Haqqani in order to help himself or the United States.

Saul’s position as CIA director, if he gets that job again, would likely start in Homeland season 5, giving fans something big to look forward to. Carrie and Saul working closely again week to week? It’s a dream come true!
