In a statement posted to Showtime’s Tumblr, Homeland show runners announce that season 4 will be filming primarily overseas.

The show will be filming in Cape Town, South Africa beginning in June and running through November.

The news won’t come as too big a surprise to those who recall that Carrie was reassigned to an overseas location during the season 3 finale, following the death of Brody.

A brief synopsis of Homeland season 4 reads: “Season four will find Carrie Mathison (Emmy, SAG and Golden Globe Award winner Claire Danes) assigned to one of the most volatile and dangerous CIA stations in the Middle East where she is back on the front lines in the war on terror.”

Said Homeland show runner and executive producer Alex Gansa, “We’ve been so lucky to work with one of the best crews in the business for the last three seasons in Charlotte. We knew going into season four that we would need to move the production overseas to tell the story of Carrie returning to the Middle East as chief of station. We are thrilled to have found a new home in Cape Town and look forward to getting season four production off the ground.”

In separate interviews teasing the fourth season of the CIA drama, Homeland’s team said that they will return to the roots of the show: Carrie “out in the field operating.” We also know that Saul will indeed be back despite being fired at the end of season 3. It’s very likely he’ll be working with Carrie (remember that Lockhart said she can form her own team).

Homeland season 4 will premiere this fall on Showtime.
