Broadway actress Victoria Clark has joined the fourth season of Homeland for an important new role.

Clark will play Carrie Mathison’s mother.

Details concerning her role are still under wraps, but needless to say, this is a big addition to the Homeland family.

How will Carrie’s mom fall into the mix? It’s pretty easy to make some guesses considering what happened during yesterday’s new Homeland.

In episode 9, which aired Sunday night, Carrie told Saul while they were out on the exchange field that she wants to go home. After she successfully pulled Saul out of the dangerous situation, she found herself under attack. We won’t know the extent of her and Saul’s injuries until December 7.

We can imagine a situation where Carrie heads back to the United States to recover from her injuries, and possibly stay there for good (or at least for a few episodes).

Carrie’s mom hasn’t appeared on Homeland until now, but her family has been very present. Her sister most recently appeared at the start of season 4 because she’s caring for Carrie and Brody’s baby.

We’ve also seen Carrie’s father in previous seasons, but sadly, actor James Rebhorn died in March.

We wonder if Rebhorn’s death was the reason for finally pulling Carrie’s mother into the mix. Or are her injuries so bad that even her mom has been shaken by her near-death experience?

There are only three more episodes left in Homeland season 4, and unfortunately we’re going to have to wait two weeks until the next new episode. Showtime is putting the show on hold this weekend due to the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States.

How do you think Carrie’s mom will factor into ‘Homeland’?
