Our Homeland season 3, episode 11 recap looks back at the high-stakes mission that took place in Sunday’s storyline.

Last week’s episode concluded with Brody crossing into Iran and meeting with Javadi.

Now, Carrie has arrived in Iran to help Brody make his escape when the time comes. She’s sporting the darker hair color and wardrobe that she used while in the country during season 2. After entering her hotel room, she quickly heads over to Fara’s uncle’s home. She’s there to pick up a phone delivered to his house for her.

General Akbari, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard who Brody is tasked to kill, has asked Javadi to a meeting. He wants Javadi to make sure they can trust Brody. He agrees and also suggests Akbari meeting with Brody himself.

Carrie and Javadi then have a meeting, and the latter reveals that Akbari is making a rare trip out of his office. Carrie thinks this means that he intends on speaking with Brody face to face. She hands off the device that Brody needs to poison Akbari.

Meanwhile, Saul is briefing the CIA on the game plan, and as he admits, “there’s a lot of moving parts.” Quinn wonders why Carrie isn’t leaving before the plan begins, and Saul says it’s because she insists she stay. Her decision to stay will play into what happens at the end of this episode.

The next day, it’s game time. Brody is picked up by Akbari’s people and moved to a new location. They come face to face with one another, but Akbari leaves after just a few moments of staring at one another. Brody’s then ushered into a house that Akbari came out of. It’s the home of Nassrin – Abu Nazir’s widow. Akbari has asked her to vet Brody. Brody and Nassrin open up to one another and the meeting appears to go well. After, Iranians outside greet him warmly and support his decision to seek asylum. Surprisingly, Brody dumps the needle he needed to kill Akbari.

An unknown amount of time passes, and Brody has turned into a star in Iran. The U.S. has lost him – he didn’t want to leave the country when they gave him the chance. Senator Lockhart says they can’t trust Brody, and the President wants this resolved. In other words, they want Brody to be killed because he’s become a liability, and Saul agrees.

On the phone with Carrie, Saul says it’s time for her to come back to America. She says she will, but he and Dar Adal both know she’s not. Instead she calls Brody and meets him at a mosque. Carrie insists that the two of them run away because Saul is about to do something with him (he didn’t let her in on this new plan). At that moment she sees two guys Saul sent over to presumably kill him. Brody runs off on Carrie’s advice, making Saul and Lockhart livid as they watch from the CIA.

Moments later Brody gets a meeting with Akbari (thanks to Nassrin) to share his intel on Javadi. In a face to face confrontation, Brody comes clean about the entire thing. Akbari is pleased with Brody’s loyalty to him and tells him that he first met with Abu Nazir in this very room about their favorite terrorist.

“It all started here…” Brody says to Akbari with pleasure. And you know the second half of that common phrase. Brody takes a piece of glass to Akbari’s head then suffocates him. He calls Carrie and tells her that Akbari is killed.

Once again, Carrie was right about Brody.

Next week’s episode of Homeland is the season finale. According to the storyline’s synopsis, “Season 3 ends with security forces closing in on Carrie and Brody, and Brody struggling to find redemption. Meanwhile, Saul plans a last-ditch rescue mission.”

What do you think will happen on the ‘Homeland’ season finale?

Even though their mission has ultimately gone as they hoped, Carrie betrayed the CIA by helping Brody run away when he was about to be killed. Will she pay for going against Saul’s plan?
