Prepare to say goodbye to Showtime’s Homeland.

Series star Claire Danes revealed on Wednesday (April 18) that season 8 of Homeland will mark the drama series’ last.

Danes confirmed the end of the hit drama series in a new interview with Howard Stern via his Sirius XM show.

“Yeah, that’s it,” Danes told Stern.

Though Danes has had fun starring in the Showtime series, which centers on Carrie Mathison (Danes), a Central Intelligence Agency officer with bipolar disorder, the actress also made it clear that it’s time to bid farewell to the character.

“She’s a lot, this Carrie freakin’ Mathieson character,” said Danes of her on-screen persona. “It’s a workout [so] I’ll be ready for a reprieve from that.”

As sad its it is to hear that Homeland is coming to an end, the decision to cap the series with eight seasons is one that fans might have seen coming for a while.

In an interview with Deadline back in 2016, series showrunner Alex Gansa revealed that he and his team of writers had always planned to wrap the series up in eight seasons.

Interestingly, at the time Gansa also pointed out that ultimately, the decision for when to pull the plug on the series was in the hands of Showtime.

As for Danes, the end of Homeland couldn’t have come at a better time for the actress.

In addition to confirming the end of the series, Danes also revealed via Stern’s show that she and husband Hugh Dancy are officially expecting their second child together.

Homeland airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on Showtime.
