Get ready for Sherlock Holmes like you’ve never seen him before in the brand new trailer for the comedy Holmes & Watson.

Whether your preferred version of Holmes is played by Benedict Cumberbatch, Robert Downey Jr., Sir Ian McKellan, Jonny Lee Miller, or Basil Rathbone, chances are you’ve never seen the world’s greatest detective quite like this. In the new movie, Holmes & Watson, we see the legendary detective portrayed by comedian Will Ferrell and his trusty companion, Dr. Watson, portrayed by John C. Reilly.

Holmes & Watson is still a Sherlock Holmes mystery, featuring the consulting detective solving a puzzle set forth by his nemesis James Moriarty before he kills Queen Victoria. However, the movie is also a humorous take on the classic detective by incorporating the silly, slapstick humor you’d expect from a film starring Ferrell and Reilly.

While the Holmes & Watson trailer is big on the goofs, it also plays on those elements we’ve become pretty accustomed to in a Sherlock Holmes movie, like poking fun at Holmes’ abilities as a “master of disguise” or the new favorite element in many modern Holmes stories that feature the camera slowing down to show his lightning-fast calculations and risk assessments in the midst of sticky situations. Of course, while Robert Downey Jr.’s Holmes is pretty spot-on with his split-second calculations and Benedict Cumberbatch’s mind palace can help him literally survive bullet wounds, in this trailer we see that Will Ferrell’s Holmes isn’t quite as successful.

It’s unclear how Sherlock Holmes fans are going to feel about this portrayal of the famous detective, and if Ferrell and Reilly’s antics will make for a refreshingly fun take on Holmes and Watson. But Ferrell and Reilly have always had great chemistry onscreen, and with a cast rounded out by talented actors like Rebecca Hall and Ralph Fiennes, we’re hopeful that Holmes & Watson will be a creative, albeit goofy, take on well-loved characters.

Holmes & Watson will premiere in theaters on December 21.
