Halloween season is in full swing at Walt Disney World, and last night the Magic Kingdom debuted an excellent new show featuring Hocus Pocus and the Sanderson sisters.

The trio took the stage at the foot of Cinderella’s castle on Tuesday night for the first of many performances throughout the Halloween season. The show features several classic Disney songs including “Come Little Children”. Notably, the actresses who play the three Sanderson sisters look very much like Hocus Pocus actresses Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy.

But it’s not just the Sandersons who appear in Disney’s Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular. Also appearing in the show is The Princess and the Frog’s Shadow Man, who performs the film’s “Friends On The Other Side”; The Oogie Boogie Man from The Nightmare Before Christmas performs “The Oogie Boogie Song”; and several other villains make cameos including Jafar, Maleficent, and Lady Tremaine as the Sandersons put together a new potion.

And yes, Winifred performs “I Put A Spell On You”!

Judging by the reactions from viewers in attendance, there were many Hocus Pocus fans in the audience. We wish we had been there for the first performance!

As noted during the Spelltacular, it’s been 22 years since Hocus Pocus opened in theaters. Despite its age, the film is just as popular as ever. So… is a sequel possible? Last November Bette Midler and Sarah Jessica Parker said they’d be down to do a sequel, but the ball is “in Disney’s court.”

One would assume that Disney is at least considering the idea — they love resurrecting old movies.

The Halloween classic has been on director Kenny Ortega’s mind too. On Instagram Tuesday night he wrote about the new Disney World show: “I am beyond excited and grateful that #HocusPocus continues to be a fan fave the world over. A live Hocus Pocus Show opened @waltdisneyworld for Halloween. After more than than 20 years, #thesandersonsisters continue to brew it up! A shout out to my witches @BetteMidler @KathyNajimy @SarahJessicaParker”.
