Hocus Pocus 2 has become a reality, and the sequel to the 1993 cult classic will be coming to us thanks to the mega-streamer, Disney+.

When Hocus Pocus first hit theaters back in ’93, it didn’t make much of a dent in the box office. However, as the years have passed, the film has intensely grown in popularity and has become a veritable holiday must-watch around Halloween.

So, it isn’t surprising that even though we find ourselves inching ever-closer to the film’s 30th anniversary, Disney is talking about making a sequel. According to Variety, Disney is officially planning to roll out Hocus Pocus 2 on Disney+.

This isn’t the first time that Disney touched the Hocus Pocus franchise. While this is the first official talk of Hocus Pocus 2, back in 2017 the entertainment giant announced a Disney Channel remake of the original film. It’s unclear how the announced sequel will impact that project, if at all.

Of course, the big question around Hocus Pocus 2 is whether or not we can expect to see the triumphant return of the Sanderson sisters themselves. According to Variety, Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy aren’t set to appear in the film, though Disney hopes they will soon join the movie.

It’s unclear what the story will be in Hocus Pocus 2. In the original film, Midler, Parker, and Najimy play three witch sisters who have been cursed since the days of the Salem Witch Trials back in the 1600s. When they are accidentally brought back to life 300 years later, they struggle to acclimate to life in the 20th century as they find out, to their horror, that Halloween has become a fun holiday for kids.

It was kind of a goofy premise, and though it didn’t make huge box office waves, it’s really become a beloved film for so many of us. Trying to recapture that sentimental magic that caused us all to fall in love with Hocus Pocus is a tall order, but if the story is right, it could happen.

So will Hocus Pocus 2 focus on the Sanderson sisters in the 21st century, or are they planning to tell the story of a different crop of witches (especially if they can’t nail down appearances by Midler, Parker, and Najimy)? We’re not sure what to expect from the sequel, but we’re feeling cautiously optimistic about returning to our favorite Halloween world for an all-new adventure.
