Director Peter Jackson has revealed that The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies’ teaser trailer will be released soon, with the full trailer premiering in October.

In a Facebook statement, director Peter Jackson has said that he’s just recently turned over The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies’ teaser trailer to Warner Bros.

He also revealed that the final Hobbit film’s full trailer will be released sometime in October due to the VFX shots being so complex. Read Jackson’s statement below:

“Many of you asked about the Hobbit Trailer. Yes – there will be a Hobbit Trailer. But like the previous two years, it’s not going to be released until around Oct. The complex VFX work required to produce the battle shots we’re all wanting to see are not far enough along yet.”

Jackson then revealed that, “Yesterday I finished work on a Teaser Trailer and that has just been delivered to Warner Bros. So no doubt this Teaser Trailer will be making it’s way into the world sometime soon…”

So while we won’t be getting the full trailer until October, we should at least get some early footage of The Battle of the Five Armies “soon.” The final Hobbit film will hit theaters on December 17, so October isn’t too far off from where we expected to see the film’s full trailer.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug pulled in $958 million worldwide and was released on DVD/Blu-ray this past April. The film opened to fairly warm reviews, coming in at 74% on Rotten Tomatoes, where the first film came in slightly under at 64%.

While many have felt that Jackson has had somewhat of a difficult time adapting the film in a way that pleases Tolkien purists, the trilogy has clearly impressed the average moviegoer and we’re expecting the final film in the trilogy to be the strongest of the three.

In The Desolation of Smaug, we saw the film’s dragon, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, on his way to Laketown right before the film went to black, ending in somewhat of a controversial cliffhanger.

It was a daring move on Jackson’s part and he explained, “It was just an opportunity. It was just a chance – it’s very rare that you get to do films back to back whether it’s two or three films and to be able to just end on a cliffhanger.”

We look forward to seeing the aftermath of Smaug’s Laketown attack, and more importantly the Battle of the Five Armies, which refers to the fight between the Goblins and the Wargs against the Men of Dale, the Elves, the Dwarves, the Eagles and a Shape-shifter.

Be on the look out for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies teaser trailer in the coming weeks, with the full trailer premiering this October.
