Today great photos of many stars of The Hobbit meeting the Lego figurine versions of themselves while in character and on set.

Stars seen in the photos include Ian McKellen (Gandalf) and Martin Freeman (Bilbo Baggins). The stars seemed to have really enjoyed seeing themselves as toys.

The Hobbit and Lego appear to have worked up an extensive merchandising deal that will surely be running over the next couple years as each film is released. The deal is similar to the Lego/Lord of the Rings partnership which saw the release of several toy sets and a video game.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey opens December 14. Early reviews are in and so far they’ve been a bit mixed. Most reviewers are enjoying the film, but those that saw the film in the new 48 fps (frames per second) format are again saying it does result in an odd look.

Part 2 of the trilogy, The Desolation of Smaug will be released December 13, 2013. There and Back Again, part 3, will be released July 18, 2014. Watch the final An Unexpected Journey trailer!

Will you be purchasing any of the Lego sets, or are these toys not your type of Middle Earth fun?
