When we flew New Zealand Air last year we were surprised to see an in-flight safety video led by fitness-enthusiast Richard Simmons. Continuing their trend of creative in-flight instructional videos, the airline today introduced a new one being used on board featuring hobbits and elves.

Watch as Air New Zealand crew members are transformed for this special journey to Middle-earth, as Hobbits, Dwarves, and Elves take flight. The piece is appropriately titled “An Unexpected Briefing.”

The video features cameos from Gollum, Peter Jackson, Fili the Dward (Dean O’Gorman), and J.R.R. Tolkien’s great-grandsons Mike and Royd Tolkien.

To celebrate the new video, New Zealand Air has also launched a global sweepstakes whereby you’ll be able to win a trip to New Zealand for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’s world premiere and visit Hobbiton movie sets! Before entering, make sure you count the number of times Elvish code appears in the below safety video.

This video was created in part to help increase New Zealand’s effort to integrate Middle-earth tourist destinations across their nation. New Zealand is the home of the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit film sets.

Other recent promotional efforts include the temporary changing of Wellington, New Zealand’s name to “Middle of Middle Earth.” Here in the United States, Denny’s restaurants will be introducing a Hobbit menu made up of special items named after aspects of Tolkien’s world.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey opens December 14.
