Warner Bros. has released seven character posters for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug depicting each of the film’s leads in their pivotal roles.

Many of the characters are familiar faces seen in last year’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, but two of them are entirely new: Orlando Bloom as Legolas and Evangeline Lilly as Tauriel (each others love interests).

Orlando Bloom as Legolas

Richard Armitage as Thorin

Evangeline Lilly as Tauriel

Martin Freeman as Bilbo

Lee Pace as Thranduil

Luke Evans as Bard the Bowman

Ian McKellen as Gandalf

Each actor/actress looks great in their Desolation of Smaug role. We would’ve loved to have seen a poster for the dragon Smaug who will be voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch. The actor did motion capture shoots to make the dragon move in ways that Cumberbatch wants him to.

The Desolation of Smaug synopsis released by the studio offers a general overview of what can be expected in the highligly-anticipated sequel. “Having survived the beginning of their unexpected journey, the Company continues East, encountering along the way the skin-changer Beorn and a swarm of giant Spiders in the treacherous forest of Mirkwood,” they write. “After escaping capture by the dangerous Wood-elves, the Dwarves journey to Lake-town, and finally to the Lonely Mountain itself, where they must face the greatest danger of all – a creature more terrifying than any other; one which will test not only the depth of their courage but the limits of their friendship and the wisdom of the journey itself – the Dragon Smaug.”

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug enters theaters December 13, 2013. The latest trailer was released at the top of last month. It is part two of Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy which will wrap next year with There and Back Again.
