Promotion is gearing up for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug! Ahead of the first Desolation of Smaug trailer this Tuesday, a teaser poster has been released.

The first Desolation of Smaug poster was unveiled by trilogy director Peter Jackson on his official Facebook page Sunday afternoon. The poster depicts Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) at the entrance to the area wherein Smaug (voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch) lies.

Though no further details about the poster or trailer were released, the Desolation of Smaug poster gives you a sense of epic-ness that the dragon Smaug will bring to the Hobbit franchise.

Hypable told you last week that The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug trailer was due for release ahead of Warner Bros.’ Man of Steel (in theaters this Friday). The trailer now appears to be set for a Tuesday online unveiling and is at least two minutes in length.

The Desolation of Smaug is the second film in director Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy. The first film, An Unexpected Journey, opened in theaters last December and made $1 billion worldwide. The third film, There and Back Again, hits theaters December 2014.

The cast and crew of The Hobbit are currently filming pick up scenes for the two upcoming films in New Zealand. Jackson told fans last month that it is the last time he will ever be shooting a Tolkien movie.

As much as we want to see Benedict Cumberbatch’s Smaug dragon, we have a feeling we may not get a full look at him until we see the movie in theaters later this year. The actor said in recent months that he insisted he offer some motion capture movements for the dragon so that he could give Smaug some of his own personality.

We’ll bring you the Desolation of Smaug trailer as soon as it arrives online Tuesday!
