Production on HBO’s His Dark Materials season 3 has officially kicked off! Read up on who’s signed on to join the cast of the final season of the series below!

Lyra’s journey is about to come to a close— but not before fans get to sink their teeth into one final season of HBO and BBC One’s adaptation of author Philip Pullman’s beloved fantasy series.

On Tuesday (June 22), HBO announced that production His Dark Materials season 3 has officially kicked off out in the UK.

The series took to Twitter to share the good news with fans far and wide.

“The Great War is underway,” tweeted the series. “#HisDarkMaterials is now filming its final season.”

Based on The Amber Spyglass (the third book in Pullman’s trilogy) season 3 finds Will, the bearer of The Subtle Knife, and Lyra, the prophesied child, traveling through multiple worlds to find and protect each other.

In addition to announcing the start of production, HBO also announced today that actors Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Jamie Ward, Kobna Holbrook-Smith, Simon Harrison, Chipo Chung, and Amber Fitzgerald-Woolfe have all signed on to appear in the third and final season of the series.

They’ll be taking on the roles of Commander Ogunwe, Father Gomez, rebel angels Balthamos, Baruch, and Zaphania, and Ama, respectively.

They join actors Dafne Keen (Lyra), Amir Wilson (Will), Ruth Wilson (Mrs. Coulter), Simone Kirby (Mary Malone), Will Keen (Father President McPhail), Jade Anouka (Ruta Skadi), Ruta Gedminstas (Serafina Pekkala) and James McAvoy (Lord Asriel) are all on board to return to reprise their roles for the final season.

The final season of the series is set to be comprised of eight episodes in total.

Currently, there’s no word on when we might expect to see His Dark Materials season 3 debut via HBO.
