Just as we thought we’d have to say goodbye to MacLaren’s in May, CBS and ‘HIMYM’ creators are reportedly in talks to create a spinoff of the hit series, How I Met Your Father.

As How I Met Your Mother, one of CBS’s longest running sitcoms on the air (how many seasons does Two and a Half Men have now?) comes to a close next season, it seems only natural that 20th Century Fox TV would turn to HIMYM creators, Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, to develop a new comedy for CBS. In addition to Bays and Thomas, they’re also bringing on Up All Night‘s executive producer, Emily Spivey to helm the developing new show.

According to Deadline, who broke the story, How I Met Your Father “would feature a new group of New York friends and chronicle a female member of the group’s quest to meet her future husband.” Although referred to as a spinoff, the new show would not feature any current cast members and would give the team a chance to wipe the slate clean and build new characters and storylines.

This could also give them a chance to tweak the problems How I Met Your Mother encountered in the first few seasons. Hopefully this show would start strong and be just as entertaining as the one we’ve come to know and love, without being repetitive.

Also in the Deadline story, which you can read here:

I hear the new characters could be introduced in the HIMYM series finale, and Ted, Barney, Marshall, Lily and Robin’s favorite hangout, MacLaren’s Pub, may be featured on the new show, serving as a link between the two gangs.

We are ok with this news as long as this HIMYM spinoff has just as much heart and humor as the original. What do you think of How I Met Your Father?
