Alright folks: this is it. We’re less than hours away from the ceremony and surprise, surprise, both Robin and Barney are freaking out.

Robin might need a paper bag to breathe into.

Robin thinks it’s a bad sign that she never found the locket. And she thought, unfairly, Barney would find the locket. She wants a guy who will come through for her – against all odds, finds her locket. We know that Ted is probably freaking out right now because he is that guy.

Ted gives Barney the locket to give to Robin. This further proves his acceptance of their relationship and distances himself more from the idea of a relationship with Robin. It’s a sweet gesture until Robin calls Ted on his bull.

Last we saw of this locket, Jeanette had thrown the locket into the river. We now know Ted dove into that river to retrieve and was back home in time for Jeopardy!. A grand romantic gesture? Or just a favor any friend would do for another friend and then give that said locket as a wedding present.

The true problem at heart here: Barney lies. ‘Legendary’ means “not real.” His initials are B.S. Robin says that Ted is the one she should be marrying and she questions nearly all the decisions she’s made until that moment. Ted’s face blanches, spelling out the internal struggle – every emotion, he has had every moment they were not together.

Stealing the blue French horn, finding the locket, all the things a man who really loved Robin would do – and Ted claims he isn’t that overly romantic guy anymore. He’s not. He doesn’t love Robin like that anymore. He knows she loves Barney. And for once, we finally believe him when he says it.

We know that not a week later he’ll go on a date with the Mother and he doesn’t act like 2005!Ted, saying “I love you.” Finally, it only took eight seasons and 22 episodes, but Ted has finally matured.

“Love is the best thing we do.” – Ted

Barney struggles to find the words.

Barney waits until hours before the ceremony to complete his vows. Not that he hasn’t written plenty already, but Barney’s vows all start out sweet, then stumble down the Barney-shaped hole of sarcastic insincerity.

Luckily, he has Lily and Marshall, the strongest couple he knows, there to help him – against his will. Further discovery makes them realize they’ve broken nearly every vow they made in 2007, and we don’t consider a bagel and cream cheese thrown at your head ‘breakfast in bed.’ But they’re celebrating their sixth year anniversary! Their romance may have dwindled but they’re still stupidly in love with each other. They must be doing something right!

They renew their vows, but this time, they do it honestly, truthfully and realistically. As Marshall says, “one set of vows can’t cover a lifetime of growing and changing with you, falling more and more in love with you everyday, Lily Aldrin.”

The whole point of vows and pledging to take care of and love one another for as long as they both shall live finally hits Barney and he goes to rethink some things.

Robin makes a run for it, doesn’t get far.

After begging Ted to run away with her, and him refusing, she bolts herself. Robin then promptly body-slams into the Mother in the reception area and when she says she’s fine, the Mother knows there is something more to it.

When the Mother is overwhelmed, she takes three deep breaths before she makes a decision. “Sometimes even three deep breaths can change everything,” she didn’t have a huge role tonight, but that line alone may have saved Robin’s impending marriage. Robin follows her decision and when she opens her eyes, she’s face to face with her groom.

Barney’s one and only vow to Robin, the only one that really counts: “From this day forward I am always going to be honest with you, because I love you.” And then Barney does admit that Ted was the one who found the locket.

Questions, answered.

The final slap! The Slap Bet is finally over. Barney, who has been antagonizing over what kind of tie he should wear, almost bolts from the altar when Marshall simply smacks some sense into him, nice and hard.

After seven seasons of HIMYM, Barney is freed from the bet that caused him anxiety and provided a lot of laughs for us viewers.

They had a real ring bear!
A cute black bear came waltzing down the aisle with rings tied around his neck, in answer to Robin’s question: ‘ring bear’ or ‘ring bearer.’ While she always indicated she’d much prefer the latter, she seemed thrilled to have a wild animal in her wedding.

There were a lot of quoteable lines from tonight, one of our favorites:
“None of us can vow to be perfect, all we can do in the end is promise to love each other with everything we got.”

After nine long seasons, are you ready?

The series finale of HIMYM is next week.
What are your last-minute theories? Barney and Robin do get married, but will they stay married?
