For the first time in nearly a decade, J.K. Rowling is the year’s highest paid author.

Last year was a big one for Harry Potter fans… and Rowling’s purse. Her scripts for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child catapulted her to #1 on Forbes Highest Paid Author’s List.

Forbes estimates the Wizarding World mastermind made $95 million in between June 2016 and May 2017. James Patterson is #2 on the list with $87 million.

2017 Highest Paid Authors List

1) J.K. Rowling ($95 million)
2) James Patterson ($87 million)
3) Jeff Kinney ($21 million)
4) Dan Brown ($20 million)
5) Stephen King ($15 million)
6) John Grisham ($14 million)
6) Nora Roberts ($14 million)
8) Paula Hawkins ($13 million)
9) E.L. James ($10.5 million)
10) Danielle Steel ($11 million)
10) Rick Riordan ($11 million)

This is J.K. Rowling’s first time in nearly a decade at the #1 spot (remember that book called Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows?). She’ll likely drop off this list again next year, but in 2018 or 2019 she has a shot at returning thanks to the publication of the Fantastic Beasts 2 script.

We’re guessing that The Cursed Child drove most of that $95 million income, as it was marketed as “the eighth story.” The Fantastic Beasts script was less of a must-have since we all preferred watching it.

You know what else would help her get back on this list? (Let’s pretend for a moment that she even cares about being on the list.) The Harry Potter Encyclopedia. Or a real Book 8. Or a prequel series. Are you listening JKR?
