As of Wednesday, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 is the highest-grossing film released in 2014.

Lionsgate announced on Thursday that the film has now made $333.2 million at the domestic box office, just surpassing the $333.1 million record set by Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy’s. In third place is Captain America: The Winter Soldier ($259.7 million), in fourth is The LEGO Movie ($257.7 million), and in fifth is The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (currently sitting at $246.1 million).

This is the second year in a row that The Hunger Games franchise nabbed the title of top-grossing film of the year – a consecutive achievement that no other franchise has accomplished before. 2013’s Catching Fire tops the box office in that year with $424.6 million, which is much larger than Mockingjay, Part 1’s box office pull.

This is also the first time that a female-led film has dominated the yearly box office two years in a row. As noted by BuzzFeed, the last time that a solo female-led film took the top spot was 1973’s The Exorcist starring Ellen Burstyn.

With Mockingjay, Part 2 hitting theaters at the end of this year and likely to surpass Part 1’s box office pull thanks to the fact that it’s the grand finale, chances are that The Hunger Games franchise and Jennifer Lawrence may take this impressive title for a third year in a row.

Edit: As pointed out by commenters, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Avengers: Age of Ultron are going to give Katniss a run for her money.

To celebrate today’s box office news, Lionsgate announced the home entertainment release of Mockingjay, Part 1. Check out a list of special features which include a tribute to Philip Seymour Hoffman and deleted scenes.
