NBC’s Heroes Reborn picks up approximately 10 years after the end of Heroes. And as this trailer proves, the future has gone to hell.

Heroes Reborn premieres Thursday, September 24 at 8/7c on NBC.

The new miniseries is set to pick up where Heroes (2006-2010) left off, and showrunner Tim Kring is back to tell new stories, with new Heroes… but of course, we’ll also see some familiar faces.

New ‘Heroes Reborn’ teaser reveals ‘The Extraordinary Among Us’

A brand new trailer shows off both new characters — including Kiki Sukezane, Robbie Kay, Ryan Guzman and new lead Zachary Levi — and returning faves Jack Coleman (Noah Bennet), Masi Oka (Hiro)… and is that Noah Gray-Cabey (Micah) all grown up there on the right?!

If you’ll allow us to nerd out for a moment, notice how similar Hiro of the new-future looks to Hiro of the old-future as seen on Heroes:

He even has the tiny goatee! We’re so ready for this.

Second ‘Heroes Reborn’ trailer asks: ‘Where are the Heroes?’

Has Sylar won? Has society crumbled? Have the Heroes all been locked away, or have they voluntarily given up the fight?

You might be asking yourself these questions after you’ve seen the gripping, chilling teaser for Heroes Reborn, the follow-up miniseries to NBC’s Heroes:

As a choir sings Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters,” a group of somber protesters carry red flags with a black circle, and a white question mark.

There are scenes of destruction, piles of garbage, police protests.

On an abandoned farmhouse is written: “Where are the heroes?” This sentiment is echoed all over the world, as people wait, abandoned by the heroes they clearly expected to protect them from whatever has gone wrong.

The beautiful trailer connects the new to the old, with the iconic solar eclipse logo, which bathes New York City in an eerie orange light.

And thus, the tone has officially been set for Heroes Reborn, which picks up nearly 10 years after the conclusion of Heroes.

NBC has released this intriguing synopsis for the new series:

A year ago, a terrorist attack in Odessa, Texas, left the city decimated. Blamed for the tragic event, those with extraordinary abilities are in hiding or on the run from those with nefarious motives.

Two such vigilantes include Luke (Zachary Levi, “Chuck”) and Joanne (Judith Shekoni, “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2”), who are seeking to avenge a tragic loss.
Noah Bennet, aka H.R.G. (Jack Coleman, “Heroes”), has gone off the grid but conspiracy theorist Quentin Frady (Henry Zebrowski, “A to Z”) finds him and opens his eyes to the truth behind the Odessa tragedy.

Other familiar faces we can expect to see in Heroes Reborn include Sendhil Ramamurthy (Doctor Suresh), Noah Gray-Cabey (Micah, all grown up!), Greg Grunberg (Matt Parkman), and Cristine Rose (Angela Petrelli).

It looks like iconic villain Sylar won’t be back, at least not in his original form (as portrayed by Zachary Quinto). He could return in another body, of course, but it has been suggested by showrunner Tim Kring that the new team will be facing a brand new villain.

Some key characters from Heroes are still missing — will Heroes Reborn surprise us with appearances by Milo Ventimiglia (Peter), Adrian Pasdar (Nathan) or Hayden Panettiere (Claire)? Anything’s possible.

Either way, the trailer looks pretty amazing, and certainly has us intrigued about the new series!
