The first trailer for Hercules: The Legend Begins starring Twilight alum Kellan Lutz has just been released.

The Hercules: The Legend Begins trailer debuted on Yahoo Movies. Check it out:

The 3D adaption of the Hercules tale that is set to be released in January certainly looks interesting. With way over the top action that is visible in the trailer, Hercules: The Legend Begins is giving us a 300 vibe. This is especially pertinent in the super slow motion scenes that are depicted near the end of the trailer.

Star Kellan Lutz is of course most famous for his role in the Twilight saga of Emmett Cullen, Edward’s brother. From a vampire to the son of Zeus, Lutz clearly has taken a liking to mythical roles.

The trailer does look like the film will leave a lot to be desired, but of course it does come down to the execution of the action sequences. It’d be silly to go into this movie expecting a great story. This rendition of Hercules is clearly going to be about the effects, and considering the great story that the Hercules legend is, that’s a shame.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

In Ancient Greece 1200 B.C., a queen succumbs to the lust of Zeus to bear a son promised to overthrow the tyrannical rule of the king and restore peace to a land in hardship. But this prince, Hercules, knows nothing of his real identity or his destiny. He desires only one thing: the love of Hebe, Princess of Crete, who has been promised to his own brother. When Hercules learns of his greater purpose, he must choose: to flee with his true love or to fulfill his destiny and become the true hero of his time. The story behind one of the greatest myths is revealed in this action-packed epic – a tale of love, sacrifice and the strength of the human spirit.
