The second annual Her Universe Fashion Show will add the glamor to the geek as designers compete at San Diego Comic-Con.

Produced in collaboration with fellow geek retailer Hot Topic and Ashley Tisdale’s Blondie Girl Productions, the Her Universe Fashion Show celebrates the creativity inherent in both nerd culture and fashion design. As the cultural discussion around women in fandom hits a fever pitch, Eckstein’s brainchild broadens the field of design for fangirls everywhere and offers an exciting opportunity for 25 aspiring designers.

“We are so excited to return to San Diego Comic-Con with the Her Universe Fashion Show,” says actress Ashley Eckstein, who founded the Her Universe brand five years ago.

“Geek Fashion is a trend that’s not going away and once again we can’t wait to celebrate Fangirl Fashion on the runway,” Eckstein says. “You will not want to miss the stunning pieces created by this year’s designers and the audience will participate by picking one of the winners!”

Two winners will be selected from a diverse group of designers, who will present works of women’s fashion inspired by any and every property celebrated at Comic-Con. One winner will be chosen by the audience, as well as a panel of judges. The winners will co-design a fashion line for Hot Topic retail stores — a victory for both the designers and trendy geek girls everywhere.

The Her Universe Fashion Show will be hosted by Ashley Eckstein, who will wear “geek couture” gowns designed by last year’s winner, Andrew MacLaine. MacLaine his co-winner Amy Beth Christenson will be among the judges for this year’s competition, along with Hot Topic’s Cindy Levitt, voice actress and designer Traci Hines, and Jessica Nubel of Sony Pictures Television.

The show will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 9 at the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel. At least 2,000 fans of all things geek and glamorous are expected to attend, kicking off the convention weekend with an exciting and beautiful celebration.
