The upcoming X-Men spinoff, New Mutants, has just added another familiar face to its cast!

New Mutants director Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) took to Instagram on Thursday (June 1) to reveal that actor Henry Zaga (13 Reasons Why, Teen Wolf) has officially signed on to play Sunspot in the film.

“Rio’s very own @zagahenry will play Sunspot #newmutants #xmen #brazil,” wrote Boone in the caption of a photo that featured both Zaga and the comics version of his on-screen alter ego.

Meanwhile, Zaga himself took to his own Instagram to express his excitement over joining the project.

“Yo this is crazy! So humbled to get to play Brazilian #xmen. @joshboonemobies thank you for making me a part of this,” wrote Zaga.

In the comics, Sunspot (whose real name is Roberto de Costa) is a mutant who can manipulate solar energy. Like Zaga himself, Sunspot hails from Brazil, so it’s great to hear Boone and the rest of the team behind New Mutants were able to tap a Brazilian actor for the role.

The 13 Reasons Why star is the second Netflix actor to join the ranks of the upcoming X-Men spinoff this week. As we reported earlier, Stranger Things star Charlie Heaton is also currently in talks to join the project as the mutant Cannonball.

Casting wise, it’s safe to say that New Mutants is shaping up to be pretty great. Zaga and Heaton aside, the film is also set to star Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch) as Magik, Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane (Game of Thrones, and Rosario Dawson as Dr. Cecilia Reyes.

We’ll be excited to learn more of the project as New Mutants moves further and further into production!

New Mutants is set to debut on April 13, 2018.
