The hit fantasy series The Witcher has booked a major star for the lead role: Henry Cavill!

Netflix has announced that the actor, best known for his role as Superman and currently starring in Mission Impossible: Fallout, will play Geralt of Rivia.

The Witcher is an eight-episode series based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy book series. The author will serve as a consultant on the TV adaptation.

Cavill seems to be a perfect fit for the role. Showrunner and Executive producer Lauren S. Hissrich said:

“I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing,” said Sapkowski last year. “I’m excited about our efforts together, as well as the team assembled to shepherd these characters to life.”

Netflix says “The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.”
