Paramount Network has announced that their Heathers TV series, which was set to debut March 7, is now being put on hold.

The comedy series follows high schoolers, and one of the issues that Heathers tackles is gun violence. In light of the tragic Parkland, Florida high school shooting on February 14, which left 17 people dead, the show is being delayed until a yet-to-be-announced date.

Paramount said in a statement, “The original series ‘Heathers’ is a satirical comedy that takes creative risks in dealing with many of society’s most challenging subjects ranging from personal identity to race and socio-economic status to gun violence. While we stand firmly behind the show, in light of the recent tragic events in Florida and out of respect for the victims, their families and loved ones, we feel the right thing to do is delay the premiere until later this year.”

Heathers stars Grace Victoria Cox, Melanie Field, James Scully, Brendan Scannell, Jasmine Mathews — watch the trailer below. It’s based on the 1989 cult classic film of the same name.

Paramount was formerly known as Spike before a rebranding in January 2018.
