Girls – Volume 1: Music from the HBO Original Series officially releases tomorrow, January 8. Featured on the soundtrack is the never-before-released song from fun., “Sight of the Sun.” Take a listen!

Season 2 of Girls is underway in just six days (finally!) on January 13, and the first soundtrack is out tomorrow. Hit group fun. contributed to Girls – Volume 1 with a track that was previously unreleased, “Sight of the Sun.” The song was set to be included on fun.’s breakout album Some Nights, but was rejected after an uncleared sample was used in the chorus.

Nate Reuss, fun.’s lead singer, told Rolling Stone “… we got really dejected and put it away until Lena [Dunham] called.”

Reuss also said that he rewrote the chorus of “Sight of the Sun” after the previous mix-up and likes it even better than the original version.

“We recorded most of this in Italy on a day off from tour and I just remember us eating an Italian feast at the studio and barely being able to communicate with the engineers, which was kind of cool because it eliminated all small talk and put the focus into the song,” Reuss said.
