Prepare to say goodbye to HBO’s Insecure.

On Wednesday (January 13), HBO announced that its hit Emmy award winning comedy series, Insecure would officially be coming to an end.

In a statement announcing the series’ plans to conclude, Amy Gravitt (Executive Vice President, HBO Programming) spoke of just what makes the Issa Rae created series so special.

“Issa has turned insecurity into an iconic form of comedy. The show is as incisive as it is heartfelt, and it has resonated strongly with its audience because of the deeply personal work that Issa, Prentice, Melina, and the cast and the writers have put into it,” said Gravitt. “This talented team has conceived a brilliant final season for Insecure and we look forward to having many more stories to tell with this singular group of collaborators.

Later, in an interview with Deadline, Issa Rae revealed that they’d always mapped out a five season plan for the series.

“We always planned to tell this story through five seasons, but we couldn’t have made it this far without the tremendous support of our audience,” said Rae. “I feel blessed beyond measure to bring our characters’ stories to an end, on-screen at least.”

While we’re sure fans will be sad to say goodbye, it’s great to hear that both Rae and her fellow co-creator Prentice Penny have been given the opportunity to give the beloved series the send off they’ve always dreamed of.
