Another big name has been added to the cast of HBO’s new series, Watchmen, with veteran actor Jeremy Irons signing on to the superhero drama.

The details behind HBO’s Watchmen series have been kept largely under wraps, but the show’s casting announcements have gotten fans incredibly excited for the possibilities of what is to come in the show. And in the show’s most recent casting addition, the show has added Alfred Pennyworth himself to the cast–Jeremy Irons.

As with all of the other actors on the show, we don’t know who Irons will be playing. According to Deadline, he will reportedly be playing “an aging and imperious lord of a British manor.” Fans of the original comic will know that there isn’t an existing character that really lines up with that description.

However, since the show has, at different times, been rumored to be either a sequel or a reimagining of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ original work, it makes sense that this would be either a new character or a much older version character. It’s also rumored that HBO’s show will take place in the present day, unlike the original comic’s 80s setting, so even though it’s probably unlikely that Irons is playing an older Watchman character, it isn’t wholly implausible.

Of course, this is all speculation at this point. All we know for sure is the cast list, which is shaping up to be an impressive roster of talent. Irons is joining a cast made up of Regina King, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Adelaide Clemens, and Andrew Howard.

Though HBO has ordered a pilot, it hasn’t yet ordered a full series of Watchmen (though the chances of them doing so are pretty high). We’ll keep you updated as more news breaks about the cast, the characters, and HBO’s plan for this exciting new show.
