If you’re British, you’ve probably already watched The Casual Vacancy miniseries, which aired earlier this year on the BBC.

But American audiences are still waiting for the series, which premieres Sunday, April 29 on HBO.

The Casual Vacancy was J.K. Rowling’s first novel following the completion of her Harry Potter saga. It takes place in a small English town called Pagford, where the inhabitants are reeling from the death of Barry Fairbrother.

As they try to figure out how to fill his seat on the town council, the “ghost” of Barry begins revealing life-changing secrets. Everyone had some kind of connection to Barry, and everyone has something to hide. The little community is torn apart, new relationships are formed, and it all builds towards a grueling conclusion.

The cast includes Michael Gambon, Keeley Hawes, Rory Kinnear, Monica Dolan, and Abigail Lawrie. The Casual Vacancy was directed by Jonny Campbell, and the novel has been adapted by Sarah Phelps in collaboration with Rowling herself.
