During their annual conference for developers this afternoon, Google announced that HBO’s standalone streaming service is coming to Android platforms.

HBO Now — which is HBO Go for people without cable subscriptions — will be available “this summer,” Google SVP Sundar Pichai announced during his presentation at Google I/O today. The app will be available on the Google Play store for Android users. He stopped short of offering an exact release date, but it’s good news for Android users who are looking to catch their favorite HBO shows without using a cable box and a pricey subscription.

When HBO Now launches on Android, it’ll be available for $14.99/month.

The standalone streaming service, which launched in April, is currently only available on iOS and Apple TV through an exclusive deal struck by Apple and HBO earlier this year. HBO said they gave Apple users exclusive access to their new service because the majority of people who use HBO Go are on Apple devices.

Nonetheless, a huge swath of cable cutters will surely be very interested in signing up for HBO Now when it launches in the near future. The standalone streaming service offers the same exact programming found on HBO Go, including the ability to watch new episodes as soon as they begin airing on the east coast of the United States (for example, you can watch a new episode of Game of Thrones beginning Sunday at 9 p.m. eastern / 6 p.m. pacific).

Android users: Will you sign up for HBO Now?

Note: This report originally stated HBO Now will be arriving “soon” on Android. We’ve updated it to say “this summer,” which is the timeframe HBO is using to describe the release.
