HBO’s most popular drama will reportedly assist the launch of HBO’s long-awaited standalone service, according to Forbes.

A new report from the financial publication states that HBO is planning to launch their standalone streaming service with Game of Thrones season 5. The show is expected to premiere in March or April, if history is any indication.

The decision to time the cable-subscription-free HBO with Game of Thrones would be a wise choice. The book to film adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s work is HBO’s most popular (read: most-streamed and most-illegally-downloaded) television show, so encouraging HBO Go password “borrowers” to sign up for this standalone service at the start of Thrones would help bring in many new subscribers.

Forbes says that the standalone HBO will look different than HBO Go. It will also be developed out-of-house in light of major service outages in 2014 during the release of new episodes of Game of Thrones and True Detective. This means that HBO Go and the new standalone service won’t be breaking down when we’re trying to watch their highly-anticipated programming.

HBO has yet to set a price for the standalone service, but we’d expect it to be around $10 – $20 per month if they want to compete with the likes of Netflix.

Richard Plepler, HBO’s CEO, announced in October that they were planning a standalone launch in 2015.
