Hayley Atwell gives new hope to Agent Carter fans hoping Netflix or another streaming service will pick up the cancelled ABC series.

This past weekend, Hayley Atwell attended Denver Con, appearing on panels and speaking to fans about her recently cancelled Marvel series Agent Carter.

As we reported in May, Agent Carter was cancelled by ABC after its second season failed to pick up huge ratings; we further noted that newly appointed ABC president Channing Dungey also chose not to renew Marvel’s Most Wanted, wanting instead to focus on “close-ended episodic procedurals.”

Ever since its cancellation, fans have been rallying to save the show, with the hashtags #SaveAgentCarter and #RenewAgentCarter dominating on Twitter, and a petition which has garnered more than 122,000 signatures to date.

While both Hulu and Amazon Prime are viable options, fans are particularly hopeful that Netflix will resurrect the series for another season. The streaming giant obviously has a standing agreement with Marvel already, having adapted several of its properties including Jessica Jones, Daredevil, and the upcoming Luke Cage.

And there’s so much more of Peggy’s story left to tell. Agent Carter‘s abrupt ending not only left fans with several cliffhangers (who’s ‘M. Carter’? What happened to Jack Thompson?), but the series as a whole hadn’t yet gotten around to addressing how Peggy and Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper) actually founded S.H.I.E.L.D. — the very organization that came to define the MCU.

Besides, whether it’s a movie, a miniseries or a full season, we all just need more Peggy Carter in our lives.

Luckily, if this report from Denver Con is anything to go by, not all hope is yet lost. A fan who attended the con reports on Twitter that Atwell encouraged fans not to give up hope, writing:

When asked to elaborate, the fan clarified that Atwell’s comments was more along the lines of insinuating that fans shouldn’t give up hope yet:

Granted, Hayley Atwell’s off-hand convention comments are not a lot to go on. She clearly cares about the show and the character a lot, and she doesn’t want to disappoint the fans who feel the same way. She’s previously stated that she’d do “whatever it takes” to bring the show back, but that’s no guarantee of anything unless she’s got Marvel behind her.

What’s noteworthy here is what Atwell isn’t saying — and hasn’t said at all yet. Considering that she has a new ABC series all lined up, one might reasonably assume that she’s wrapping up the Peggy Carter chapter of her life, and that she would be telling fans to move on, too. But at this point, Atwell isn’t telling fans to say goodbye.

Instead, she seems to genuinely believe that there’s hope for the series, which suggests that some form of talks probably are happening. Whether or not they come to anything is another matter, of course.

It is also interesting to note that fans have been contacting Netflix to show their support Agent Carter — and recently, one fan received a somewhat encouraging response:

‘Ben’ assured her that Agent Carter would be a “great add” to Netflix, and that “we may surprise you with the good news in the near future.”

Hypable reached out to Marvel about these rumors and they gave us a “no comment.” The lack of an outright denial is certainly a bit encouraging.

It’s not much to go on — but it’s not nothing, either. For now, all we can do is continue to show our support for Agent Carter, and we might see something come of it eventually. Peggy’s story isn’t over yet, and we hope Marvel agrees!

Do you think we’ll get more ‘Agent Carter’?
