Lucy Lawless makes her first appearance on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2 in this new image from the season premiere.
With the premiere episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2 now less than a month away, Marvel has shared a first look of one of the show’s most anticipated additions.
Though the title of the premiere episode remains the subject of speculation, the new still shot sheds some light on Agent Isabelle Hartley, who will be played by fan-favorite Lucy Lawless. As an original character created for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., not much is known about Hartley – but she certainly looks 100% business in the image below.
Lawless’ casting was announced just before San Diego Comic-Con, to great excitement from the show’s fans. Describing the character, executive producer Maurissa Tancharoen said that Hartley is “a long-time S.H.I.E.L.D. veteran. She’s tough!”

As a veteran of the now-disgraced spy organization, Hartley has undoubtedly faced a difficult few months – what with the whole hostile HYDRA takeover thing and all. According to Marvel, Hartley now hopes to help Director Coulson rebuild S.H.I.E.L.D., but we can only speculate on whether or not that process will go smoothly.
Also notable about Agent Hartley is the fact that she carries a very particular knife, which Tancharoen says is “always by her side.” Could this bitter steel be magical or alien in nature? Is it a symbol of some sort? Or is Hartley just really serious about keeping her nails clean?
