Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House captivated audiences and had us dying for more spooky fun. Happily, a second season is officially happening.

Fans of Shirley Jackson’s horror classic The Haunting of Hill House might not have known what to expect from (and maybe felt a bit skeptical about) the Hill House Netflix series. The show was touted as a horror series inspired by Jackson’s book, but it wouldn’t be using the same story told in the novel. It was an interesting — and slightly risky — move, but did it ever pay off.

The series was incredibly well-received, and horror fans couldn’t stop talking about the show. And though The Haunting of Hill House seemed to end on a pretty definitive note for the Crain family, we all hoped there was some way for more Haunting fun in the future.

And then Netflix released a short video that features a whispered quote that says, “The terrace and the whole place, the lawn and the garden beyond it, all I could see of the park, were empty with a great emptiness.” It is a quote readers of classic horror will likely recognize as a quote from Henry James’ iconic Turn of the Screw.

Once fans identified the quote as a line from Turn of the Screw, it didn’t take long for fans to realize what the next season would be: The Haunting of Bly Manor. The streamer even released a title card for the show to confirm it.

The Haunting of Bly Manor will hit Netflix in 2020, and if The Haunting of Hill House is any indication, Bly Manor will likely use the setting of James’ book and tell a fresh story just like Hill House did with Jackson’s novel. We don’t yet know who will star in Bly Manor, if an entirely new crop of actors will bring the story to life, or if creator Mike Flanagan will take a page from Ryan Murphy’s book and use the same actors in new roles in a similar fashion to American Horror Story.

Either way, we’re so excited that the haunting continues, and we love this creative spin on using classic haunted houses from literature to bring this horror anthology series to life. The Haunting of Bly Manor releases in 2020, so you have plenty of time to make sure you’re caught up on The Haunting of Hill House by then!
