Hasbro has announced that a My Little Pony movie is set to be released in 2017.

My Little Pony has become a multi-million dollar empire, and Hasbro plans to take advantage of the franchise’s popularity by releasing a My Little Pony movie in 2017.

The film will be produced by Allspark Pictures, and will join Jem and the Holograms as the first films to be produced by the studio.

Hasbro Studios will be financing My Little Pony “in-house,” and Variety reports that the company plans to “work with studios to release the film on the broadest possible number of screens.”

Writer Joe Ballarini, who penned the script for Ice Age: Continental Drift, is set to write the script for My Little Pony. The company’s in-house producer Megan McCarthy will serve as an executive producer on the film.

My Little Pony became popular back in 1983, when it was developed by Bonnie Zacherle, Charles Muenchinger, and Steve D’Aguanno. The characters became wildly popular sellers in stores and their colorful bodies have been a hallmark of toy stores over the last twenty years.

Hasbro has produced four different television shows featuring My Little Pony, and now it looks like we’ll finally be getting a feature film which will hit theaters sometime in 2017.
