After months of horrifying stories releasing and brave victims stepping forward with their stories, Harvey Weinstein has officially surrendered to the NYPD.

Weinstein turned himself in at a police station in downtown New York around 7:30 am EST on Friday morning, as Variety reports. Unsurprisingly, the precinct was swimming with reporters when Weinstein arrived.

According to The New York Times, prosecutors in Manhattan are expected to charge Weinstein with the sexual assault of two women, actress Lucia Evans, and a second, unidentified individual. Weinstein’s bond is expected to be set at 1 million dollars, but if Weinstein pays the bond he will be expected to surrender his passport and wear a monitoring device.

This day is a long time coming for many in the entertainment industry. Over 80 women have come forward with stories of abuse at the hands of Harvey Weinstein since last fall, and though the former producer was able to evade consequences for a very long time thanks to payoffs and threats, it seems justice is finally about to be served. Additionally, the Times reports that prosecutors in London and Los Angeles have also been investigating the sexual assault accusations against Weinstein as well as investigating financial crimes in relation to paying off his victims for their silence.

Seeing Weinstein surrender to the NYPD certainly seems like it was a long time coming, with so many individuals coming forward with stories of Weinstein assaulting them or coming onto them with unwanted advances. As victims in Hollywood have felt more and more emboldened to speak out against the men in power that assaulted them, we’re thankful for the ones who started it all, calling out a man that many would have considered the most powerful man in Hollywood at the time.
