Harvey Weinstein has thrown a stone over at gun rights advocates when he said on Howard Stern’s radio show that he has plans to make a film with Meryl Streep concerning gun rights in America.

While on Howard Stern’s radio show, the famed producer said, “They [NRA] are going to wish they weren’t alive after I’m done with them.” He revealed that he would be working on the film with Oscar award-winning actress Meryl Streep.

The producer says that the film won’t be a small, independent film, but “a big movie like ‘Mr. Smith Goes to Washington’.” He explained that he doesn’t “think we need guns in this country, and I hate it.” He continued saying, “The NRA is a disaster area.”

The film will clearly be incredibly political and will split audiences around the U.S., who continue to disagree on whether gun laws or restrictions would alleviate any of the gun violence we’ve been seeing around the States.

He believes moviegoers will be leaving the film thinking, “Gun stocks — I don’t want to be involved in that stuff. It’s going to be like crash and burn.”

Many people are criticizing Weinstein due to his previous films like Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill, which included gun violence, as well as being a fundraiser for many Democratic candidates in the past who aimed at making purchasing guns more difficult.

It’s not the first time a director or actor has taken on the NRA in films, but Weinstein definitely seems like he’s willing to push the envelope a bit in his future Anti-NRA film. We don’t know many details about the film yet, but it’s sure to be one of the most controversial films in the last decade.
