The CEO of Comcast, who’s company owns Universal and its parks, revealed in a call yesterday that the Wizarding World of Harry Potter’s London expansion will open spring 2014.

The remarks are newsworthy because this is a slightly earlier timeframe than previously rumored. Reports over the past few months, from reliable insiders, have indicated that the Diagon Alley expansion was set to open in summer 2014 around the four-year anniversary of the original Wizarding World opening.

“The thing that we’re most excited about, what really transformed our park in Orlando was opening Harry Potter which happened a few years ago,” said aforementioned CEO Steve Burke in comments released by Yahoo! (and noticed by Snitch Seeker). “We’re opening a second Harry Potter attraction in Orlando which I think is one of the most creative ideas I’ve ever seen in the theme park business but first attraction is in the one of our gates it’s called Islands of Adventure.”

He continued, “The second attraction is in the other gate and the way you get from one gate to the second gate as you take a train and the train is the Hogwarts Express. And so, the actual transition or the movement from one gate to another gate is part of the attraction which is never been done before and it’s a wonderful creative idea, that opens next spring. We think that’s going to be a very big draw.”

Though these comments are from a reliable source, we’re still not convinced that Diagon Alley will be opening in the spring. We’d suspect tests will be wrapping up by the spring and perhaps soft (test) openings will occur at the same time.

For its part, Universal has only released gorgeous concept art of the new expansion and touched on a couple highlights. They have not yet shared specific details about rides like the rumored Gringotts thrill ride or what to expect on your Hogwarts Express train ride.

Last month we shared photos of the Hogwarts Express arriving at Universal Orlando.
