Forget Find My iPhone: this DIY Weasley clock by a crafty Harry Potter fan is infinitely cooler.

In the Harry Potter series, we are introduced to a lot of awesome wizarding gadgets. Some of them are more useful than others (who ever came up with the Deluminator, anyway?), but what usually tops people’s list of must-haves is the Weasley Family Clock.

Introduced in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the clock hangs in Molly Weasley’s kitchen and tells her where every member of her family is. And no, we don’t know what happened to Fred’s hand at the end of Deathly Hallows. ?

Because we kind of have magic in real life (aka science and technology), it turns out you can actually have a Weasley Clock of your own. One Reddit user has figured out a super complicated, but super worth it way to make one.

From Engadget:

The creator used the If This Then That recipe-based automation service to define each of the clock positions for every family member. Most of it is based on smartphone GPS data — for example, “work” means tbornottb3 is in the university library and “mortal peril” means the creator is near a rival school. The clock uses factors aside from location, too, like switching to “holiday” if the forecast calls for snow. All family members can assign unique factors to each of the clock’s locations.

Of course to put this together you need various hard-earned skills like coding, woodcutting, and actual clockmaking. Still, if you need a summer project (or if you want to show off at a school science fair), this is a great way to spend your time!

Here’s an account of how tbornottb3 put the clock together, as well as the Reddit thread where he explains his process more thoroughly.
