Rumors of a Harry Potter TV show have once again surfaced online.

WeGotThisCovered.com “reported” on Tuesday that WB “is in the very early stages” of creating a prequel TV series set at Hogwarts with new characters.

While exciting, you shouldn’t get your hopes up just yet. Hypable asked representatives for J.K. Rowling about this report and were told Wednesday morning that “there are no plans to develop the Harry Potter stories into a TV series. Any reports are purely speculative.”

The idea of a Harry Potter TV show is tantalizing, so it’s understandable why fans would get so excited over rumors.

Television is the last major entertainment medium that the Wizarding World franchise has yet to step into, and the original seven Harry Potter books, for example, would lend themselves to a 70+ hour TV series. Outside of the original series, the vast Wizarding World seems ripe for a TV adaptation.

Adding fuel to the fire recently are the Streaming Wars: Disney, Amazon, Hulu, Netflix, and others have all been developing compelling TV exclusives to compete with one another for your monthly subscription dollars, and now WB-owned WarnerMedia is creating an app of their own, launching early next year.

They’ll need their own Big Fandom exclusives to entice you to sign up for yet another streaming service, and what would be a bigger draw than Harry Potter? In fact, we wrote about a Harry Potter TV series becoming inevitable after Amazon acquired the rights to adapt The Lord of the Rings.

My guess is that Warner Brothers has already knocked on Rowling’s door several times and begged her to let them do something with the Wizarding World on TV. Of course they want to. The million dollar question is: Will Rowling ever say yes?

Rowling has credited former WB CEO Kevin Tsujihara with convincing her to create the Fantastic Beasts film series. With Tsujihara now out, WB might have another hoop to jump through.

To me, it’s not a question of if, but when. I’m hoping it’s sooner rather than later.
