In light of the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie news announced yesterday, we’ve made a list of other Potter-themed spinoff movies we’d love to see.

The Young Maurauders

If there were ever a hope for a spinoff series, a story about James, Peter, Sirius and Remus as Hogwarts students is definitely the front-runner. We caught a glimpse of these four at certain moments throughout the Harry Potter cinematic series, but how amazing would it be to see these four, as well as Lily and the others, as they set up the epic journey that a young Harry Potter would eventually endure? This needs to happen!

The Hogwarts Founders – Working Title: ‘Hogwarts Begins’

Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin – who would play these oh-so-important characters to the Harry Potter series if it were turned in to a movie? Get your casting hat on and let us know in the comments! There’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that a J.K. Rowling-supervised film based on the original founders of the most important school of witchcraft and wizardry would be incredible. With the right cast it could be the perfect extension to the already loved Potter movies.

*Please excuse the tacky image but how amazing would this cast be!?

Hogwarts: The Next Generation

Okay, yes, we know there is a Star Trek reference in the title, but how can we avoid this obvious idea? The last cinematic moment we saw from the Harry Potter series was Ron, Hermione, Harry, Ginny and others sending their now grown children off to Hogwarts. How amazing would it be to see what those kids are up to at Hogwarts after they arrive? Though we do think that this movie idea would be adapted as a book before it were to be a movie, it would still draw Potter fans in nonetheless.

The Tales of Beedle the Bard

Composed of several different stories, we would love to see any one of these stories come to life on the big screen. We saw a brief mini-movie of The Tale of the Three Brothers in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1, so even as brief vignettes, any of the other stories would be fascinating to see come to life. The tales included in this book are: “The Fountain of Fair Fortune,” “The Wizard and the Hopping Pot,” “Babbitty Rabbitty and the Cackling Stump” and “The Warlock’s Hairy Heart.” Which one would you like to see turned in to a movie if you could choose?

Dumbledore’s Early Years – Working Title: “Albus”

If any one character from the Harry Potter series deserves his or her own movie/book it’s definitely Albus Dumbledore. There’s so much mystery behind one of the greatest wizards to ever grace the pages of books that it’s almost blasphemous that this concept hasn’t been introduced yet! Albus Dumbledore has lived through so much history and has so much knowledge that it could be an incredible way to tie in some of the most amazing aspects of wizard history in to the Harry Potter cinematic experience. Plus, who else would love to see what went down between him and Grindelwald!? Just kidding…kind of.

With a series so robust in engaging, beautiful, and magical content as the Harry Potter series, it’s hard to find an element of the series that couldn’t be turned in to a movie. Regardless, today’s announcement has done one amazing thing that Harry Potter fans have been waiting to see for years: speculation about the future of the series!

Oh, and Mugglecast has come out of it’s one week retirement! Hooray!

Either way, we’re going to be looking at Harry’s universe on the big screen again when Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hits theaters, likely not for several more years!

What spinoff from the Harry Potter universe would you like to see come to life on the big screen?
