Warner Brothers and J.K. Rowling have opened the Harry Potter characters up to the wonderful world of anime.

The first line of official Harry Potter anime merchandise is a series of 13 trading cards depicting one (or two) of the characters. WB has never licensed anime Harry Potter products before, meaning these cards are our first look at the characters in the Japanese art form:

Albus Dumbledore:

Sirius Black:

Remus Lupin:

James Potter:

Hedwig:

Fred and George Weasley:

Draco Malfoy:

Hermione Granger:

Ron Weasley:

Harry Potter:

Buckbeak:

Severus Snape:

It’s interesting to me that they would include three of the four Marauders in the initial line up. As far as I know, this is one of the first times that Remus, James, and Sirius have been a part of a brand new line of merchandise.

Also strange: That they’d include James but not Harry’s mother Lily.

Maybe these characters are the most popular ones in Japan? At any rate, I’m sure more characters will be added down the line. I also expect these interpretations of the characters to appear on a lot of merchandise in the months ahead.

No word yet on if these anime products will hit America, but it’s not hard to imagine these on a dimly-lit shelf in Hot Topic.

WB and Team Rowling have slowly but surely opened the world of Harry Potter up to various consumer product companies in the years following the release of Deathly Hallows. One of the biggest deals occurred last year when WB licensed the characters to Funko for their beloved Pop! Vinyl line. A second batch of Harry Potter Pop! Vinyls will debut in a couple of months (Luna! Draco! Sirius! Dobby!).
