Lead Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe has been on a mission to distance himself from the magical franchise, and news of J.K. Rowling creating a spinoff doesn’t exactly help him step further away.

At an event he attended to promote his and Jon Hamm’s A Young Doctor’s Notebook miniseries, Radcliffe said he didn’t know much about the new movie starring Fantastic Beasts’ Newt Scamander.

“I first thought, ‘Thanks Jo, I’m going to have to answer tons of questions about this now,’” he said in comments obtained by Metro. “I’m sure they’re going to have a great time [making it]. I’m sure most people are really excited about it.”

To the possible of disappointment of fans, he continued, “Needless to say I wouldn’t be involved in it and I guess none of the others [from the Harry Potter films] will be, but I know absolutely nothing about it.”

This isn’t the first time Radcliffe has completely dismissed more Potter. The actor revealed he turned down an opportunity to appear in the Wizarding World Orlando expansion because he is “too old to be running round in a school boy’s cape.”

Although Radcliffe doesn’t know anything about it, Harry Potter movie producer David Heyman does. He spoke exclusively to Hypable yesterday about the announcement and assured us it’s going to be very good.

Fans will not be shocked to hear that Radcliffe won’t be involved given the first movie will take place 70 years before Harry’s story begins.
