Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has shown her appreciation for a Scottish hotel she stayed at in a time of need by donating a model of Dobby to the business.

The Herald Scotland reports that Rowling spent several months at Marcliffe at Pitfodels near Aberdeen when her father-in-law was sick in the city.

The hotel’s owner says that Dobby arrived “out of the blue” one day with a letter attached in which Rowling thanked the staff for their assistance and said she “wanted to give the character a new home,” according to the report. The house elf now sits in a glass box at the hotel where he’ll only have to watch others work.

We presume the gift was first given to Rowling by Warner Bros. or the Potter production team, perhaps after filming had wrapped on the Deathly Hallows films.

The author is currently at work on a script for her Harry Potter spinoff movie series Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them which she is developing with Warner Bros. and longtime Potter producer David Heyman. Outside of the wizarding world, next year she will publish a second book in the Robert Galbraith series following English detective Cormoran Strike.
