One of two Harry Potter mobile games arriving in 2018 has released an awesome first look and tantalizing new details!

Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery (not to be confused with the Pokemon Go-style Harry Potter: Wizards Unite) will let you become a Hogwarts student and go through all seven years at the iconic Wizarding School that we’ve all yearned to attend.

The game is set after Harry’s birth (1980) but before he is enrolled at the school (1991), while Nymphadora Tonks and Bill Weasley are still students, according to developer Jam City. And since they’re specifically calling out Tonks and Bill, we assume we’ll be seeing these characters in the game.

The first trailer shows off the Hogwarts Mystery’s vibrant castle setting and character designs. The game appears to be 3D and could offer a 3D camera, but we still don’t know if this is an open world environment.

Key art was also released today depicting some of your favorite characters, new students, and wizards flying on brooms (CAN WE PLAY QUIDDITCH?):

According to a press release, “Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery features both large plot arcs and smaller stories such as relationship quests. The game features a new encounter system in which player’s decisions in both actions and narrative impact their quests, and how other characters regard and interact with them. These choices will allow Harry Potter fans to create the legacy of the witch or wizard they want to become.”

You’ll be able to “continually upgrade your [your Hogwarts student] as you gain new expertise and magical skills – you can even choose your own pet. You will join one of the four Houses before progressing through your years at Hogwarts, participating in magical classes and activities such as Potions and Transfiguration. Building your skills will come in handy as you solve mysteries and go on adventures. As players improve their skills, they will unlock new locations, spells and other magical abilities.”

Fans were very excited that they’d be able to experience Hogwarts themselves when Hogwarts Mystery was announced in December. This trailer and the new details should only increase the anticipation.

The game will be on display at A Celebration of Harry Potter in Orlando, Florida from January 26 – 28. Hogwarts Mystery will also host two panels at the fan gathering, and Hypable will be there!

Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery will be released this spring. Jam City is developing the game in association with Warner Bros. and their new Potter gaming group Portkey Games.
