Bloomsbury and Scholastic made fans Tweet/Facebook/Tumble the hashtag #UnveilVoldemort on Wednesday and Thursday in order to reveal a first look at the Harry Potter Illustrated Edition’s Dark Lord.

It was an exciting prospect! We hadn’t realized until they started promoting the hashtag that it’d be fun to see Jim Kay’s interpretation of Lord Voldemort for the first ever Illustrated Edition.

Fans were able to unlock the preview Thursday morning, and it’s… Well, we should’ve expected this. It’s Voldemort, but he’s hiding underneath Professor Quirrell’s turban. It was silly of us to expect a bigger preview given the events of Sorcerer’s Stone.

We presume the illustration, above, depicts Harry’s first glimpse of Voldemort. This brings back so many memories! If only poor Harry knew what kind of threat Voldemort was about to present for the remaining six books, perhaps he would’ve done something differently to fight him.

Then again, Harry was only 11, so he didn’t have much of a shot at defeating He Who Shall Not Be Named.

The Illustrated Edition of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone hits store shelves on October 6, and you can pre-order now. There are over 100 illustrations by Jim Kay in this expanded edition of the book. Scholastic and Bloomsbury plan to publish one new Illustrated Edition every year (Given how many illustrations will be in each book, it feels like we’re going to get an all-new Harry Potter novel each year!).

For more illustrations from Sorcerer’s Stone, check out this preview which offers looks at several actual pages from the book.
