On Thursday, January 19, multiple official Harry Potter social media accounts began teasing something called #FollowTheSpiders.

Update (January 27): The announcement was made at opening night of A Celebration of Harry Potter, and it is an expansion of the Studio Tour, as rumored. The new — permanent — expansion opens on March 31, 2017. Details can be seen below (It sounds great! … If you can get to London).

Amongst the imposing trees, you will encounter a full size model of Buckbeak, which is new to the tour, and have the opportunity to bow to the majestic creature. They will see up close the incredible detail and craftsmanship that went into creating the magnificent Hippogriff. Each feather had to be individually inserted and glued by the Creature Effects team who were busy adding feathers right up until the final moment Buckbeak was needed on set for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

As you venture deeper into the depths of the forest, you will come face-to-face with Aragog, the Acromantula. Emerging from his dark lair, the enormous spider will appear before you along with spiderlings from his family. Created by Nick Dudman, Creature and Make-Up Effects Designer, with help from Production Designer Stuart Craig, Aragog had a leg span of over 18 feet and was even able to crawl out of a hole and deliver dialogue in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Original story (January 19): “Looking for something? All you need to do is #FollowTheSpiders,” @Pottermore, @HarryPotterFilm, and @WBTourLondon tweeted.

A new @FollowTheSpiders Instagram account consists of nine photos, collectively creating a photo of… You guessed it, Ron’s worst nightmare:

Whatever this is will be revealed January 27, 2017.

So what’s going on here? A Celebration of Harry Potter, the annual and official Potter conference held at Universal Orlando, is happening January 27 – 29. Last year the event was used to make several announcements, and it looks like this is going to be one of ’em.

@WBTourLondon was the first Twitter account to tweet about #FollowTheSpiders, so my natural assumption is that this announcement is related to The Making of Harry Potter Studio Tour. Perhaps there will be a spider-related exhibit at the tour. But would that need a whole new Instagram account? It would be rude to hype fans up with cryptic messages for a studio tour expansion that 95% of fans will never get to see.

The whole “follow the spiders” thing happens in Chamber of Secrets, so the announcement is probably unrelated to the Harry Potter Illustrated Editions (COS hit book stores last October).

The promotional artwork looks Pottermore-esque, suggesting it could be some new material coming to the Harry Potter website.

Or could this be a theme park expansion? A Harry Potter spinoff series set in the forest (lol)? A new Aragog Funko Pop! Vinyl?

We’ll find out January 27!
