We’re still three months away from Universal Hollywood opening its Wizarding World of Harry Potter land, but already there’s “blueprints” for an expansion.

At the very end of a preview piece published by the Los Angeles Times on Thursday, there’s a hint that an expansion is already in the works:

While space is tight at the Hollywood park, a Diagon Alley expansion of Wizarding World is reportedly envisioned for the Waterworld stunt show arena location, according to a source who has seen the blueprints.

If true, this means Diagon Alley will be going up literally right next to Hogsmeade. This map we made shows how the two could potentially sit next to one another:

One of the biggest questions the proximity of these two lands to one another raises is how Universal Hollywood intends to transition between them. There doesn’t seem to be enough room here to build an operating Hogwarts Express with two stations, like what exists at Universal Orlando. If they managed to run a train in between the two lands, it’d have to go along the perimeter of Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley, and would probably be a shorter track.

According to Harry Potter canon, these two areas of the Wizarding World are far apart. Given how much effort Universal has put into the detail of their Wizarding World lands, we hope they’ll dream up a way to make these two fit nicely together.

Or maybe Diagon Alley won’t go right next to Hogsmeade. Universal Hollywood fans on USHForums.com have heard from their own sources that Diagon Alley plans are being discussed, and one person claiming to have a source says plans called for the expansion to be built in the lower lot where The Mummy ride stands. That would separate Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley by a very large hill — a steep one that a train probably couldn’t travel on.

Wherever it goes, Universal Hollywood’s interest in adding Diagon Alley to a landlocked theme park stems from the success of Universal Orlando’s two Harry Potter lands. There’s no doubt that Wizarding World Hogsmeade will be a huge hit for Hollywood when it opens in April, and they’ll be able to enjoy another round of success if/when they open a Diagon Alley expansion.

Universal Orlando’s Diagon Alley features a Gringotts Bank thrill ride, Kings Cross, The Leaky Cauldron restaurant, several shops, and a couple of small shows. It’s great despite the lack of rides.
