In a statement to Hypable, Warner Brothers has denied that they are planning a Harry Potter and the Cursed Child movie.

Earlier this week a report suggested that WB is putting plans together for a movie based on The Cursed Child, the new Harry Potter stage play that opened on London’s West End in July. The movie report went so far as to suggest that the studio wanted to court original Harry Potter actor Dan Radcliffe for the project.

But Warner Brothers tells Hypable that’s not the case. “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a stage play, with no plans for there to be a film,” they tell us.

Previous reports have said that the studio may aim for an adaptation after the Fantastic Beasts trilogy wraps up in 2020, but WB’s statement to Hypable suggests otherwise.

Much has been said about The Cursed Child, but one thing’s for sure: It’s best to be seen, not read. And for that reason, many have hoped that “the eighth” story would hit screens in some fashion.

I personally would like to see the play be filmed on stage with the original cast. No adaptation — just film the show. Hold midnight release parties in movie theaters around the country, or broadcast it live from the Palace Theater. It’d be as exciting as experiencing one of the original Harry Potter movies for the first time!

The script book went on sale on July 31 — Harry Potter and J.K. Rowling’s birthday — but reading it is nothing like seeing on stage. There are amazing stunts and effects happening at the Palace Theater, and the book simply cannot do it justice.

International audiences who can’t make it over to London are hoping for The Cursed Child to move elsewhere around the world. Rumors have already started swirling about an opening on Broadway sooner rather than later.

Also on the horizon: A new edition of The Cursed Child script book. It’s due out in early 2017 and will include the final edition of the script. And maybe a couple of other surprises?
